What to wear in Spain
Summer weather in Spain
Summer weather in most of Spain is generally warm to hot, with temperatures varying across the country. Exceptions include the Pyrenees and Northern Spain (including the regions of the Basque Country, Asturias, Galicia, La Rioja, and Navarra, where summer temperatures are moderate, and there’s a high chance of occasional rain).
In the Spanish capital, Madrid, average summer temperatures range from 30-35°C (86-95°F), though mornings and evenings might make you want to cover up with light layers.
Meanwhile, in Barcelona and Valencia, along the Mediterranean coast, temperatures are slightly cooler, averaging around 28-30°C (82-86°F), and you won’t typically notice the morning and evening chill when the sun is down.
In the southern coastal areas, you rarely need layers. In cities like Malaga and Granada, temperatures often reach 30-35°C (86-95°F).
Seville is one of the hottest cities in the country, with summer highs frequently reaching 35-40°C (95-104°F), so I don’t recommend visiting in summer unless you’re comfortable with such high temperatures.
In contrast, Northern Spain destinations like San Sebastian and Bilbao are much milder, with temperatures averaging 22-25°C (72-77°F). You’ll definitely need layers and an umbrella for the entirety of Northern Spain due to cooler temperatures and rain.
Overall, Spain’s summer is ideal for enjoying beaches and outdoor activities. The southern and central regions have the driest, most intense heat, while the Mediterranean regions are more pleasant, usually warm to hot but less exhausting due to the coastal breeze. The northern regions, including the Pyrenees, are best for those who prefer moderate temperatures and don’t mind occasional rain.
Outfits to wear in Spain
Whether you’re planning an epic summer vacation in Spain or looking for new outfit ideas for your upcoming Europe trip, you’ll find plenty of my personal favorites for summer wear in Spain. You’ll also find a few handy downloadable PDFs in this Spain Packing List post.
In the meantime, let’s focus on the beautiful details and unique wardrobe pieces I often pack for my trips across Spain during the summer months. After my recent articles on Clean Travel Beauty Essentials, Eco makeup favorites, and hiking must-haves became popular, I decided to share more Spain outfits and clothing items from my wardrobe (and wishlist). While I’m not a fashion or beauty blogger, I still enjoy looking good on the go. For me, clothing is definitely a form of self-expression, and looking good and feeling good on the move go hand in hand. Inspiring outfits often spark my creativity while traveling.
Dressing for the occasion, being open to experiments, curating my signature looks, and paying attention to the details – all these form part of my daily life in Spain. Therefore, based on my favorites, I’ve put together this list of cool things you can wear in Spain in summer.

My Favorite Outfits & Clothing Items
Handmade Bags from Spain
One of my favorite Spanish bags ever is La fallera pouch by Cuartitodelostrastos which embraces the cultural heritage of the Valencia region. It is made from the unique silk fabric, used to create exclusive traditional dresses for the Festival of Las Fallas – one of the most iconic festivities in Spain. I remember back when I received this art piece at home, I spent almost 30 minutes looking at it from different angles (cause every detail was so pretty). This bag makes you feel yourself European royalty for a moment… I love pairing it with a little black dress to glam up for a night out.
Here are more cute bags that I love pairing with my Spain outfits, along with a few from my current wish list:
- Woven Rattan Bag
- Wicker handbag
- Bamboo Handbag
- Crochet Raffia Summer Shopper Bag
- Brown Handcrafted Wooden Clutch
- Statement Crossbody Leather Purse
- Handmade Raffia Pouch Clutch

Spanish Espadrilles
One of the best ways to rock your summer in Spain is to get a pair of handmade Spanish espadrilles. Las alpargatas (the Spanish name for espadrilles) have their origins in the countryside. Years ago it was essential to have resistant footwear with a thick sole. At the same time, the warm temperatures of sun-kissed Spain required significant breathability.
With time espadrilles evolved from a daily must-have to a unique piece of stylish apparel. Nowadays, a pair of locally-made espadrilles is one of the coolest Valencia gifts to elevate any look. While espadrilles are largely produced by different brands around the world, there is nothing like a pair of Spanish alpargatas.
CristinaLagardera creates a wide range of colorful handmade espadrilles from Valencia. Also, I own a pair of espadrilles from the Spanish brand Castañer. Here are a few epic, top-rated European shoe brands I want to buy my next pair from:
- ELENOVARI from Granada
- Ysbel from Seville
- aeliasandals from Athens
- VONAMU

Crochet
Crochet has quickly become my latest obsession – it’s the perfect blend of style and comfort, especially for the warm Spanish summers. There’s something so effortlessly chic about a handmade crochet top; it’s the ideal addition to any wardrobe when exploring Spain. Crochet truly embodies that laid-back yet stylish “it-girl” vibe that I absolutely adore.
Crafted from lightweight, breathable fibers, crochet clothing offers unparalleled comfort, making it the perfect choice for those sun-soaked days by the beach or strolling through charming Spanish streets. One of my favorite artisans, Inma from Magic Creaciones, creates an exquisite range of unique crochet pieces that perfectly capture the essence of Mediterranean style. From vibrant tops to minimalist nude bikinis and even hats, her designs are perfect for creating a chic and breezy summer look.
I’ve recently added a stunning crochet top to my collection (it fits snugly, so I recommend going one size up if you prefer a looser fit) and a beautiful crochet bikini in a rich chocolate hue – ideal for the upcoming beach season. Both pieces are sure to be my go-to items for those warm days spent by the Spanish coast.
More unique crochet pieces to rock during any Mediterranean holiday:
- MKnittingCrafts from Istanbul
- LuckyHandsKnitting
- KnitBoutiqueOne from Ukraine
- AnnieCrochetFashion from Bulgaria

Artsy T-shirts & Sweatshirts
These days, even a simple T-shirt can become a canvas for self-expression and a source of inspiration. I’m particularly drawn to graphic tees that carry meaningful designs, and there’s something about the bold, artistic flair of Spanish-inspired graphics that really speaks to me. One of my absolute favorites is this Dali T-shirt – it’s the perfect blend of art and style.
What I love most is how versatile it is; it pairs just as effortlessly with casual denim for a laid-back vibe as it does with a more refined, classy suit for a touch of unexpected flair. The graphic captures a bit of the soul of Spain – passionate, creative, and timeless.
Here are a few cool Ibiza T-shirts – Ibiza Is Always A Good Idea, Meet Me In Ibiza Tee, Ibiza Beach Retro Shirt; or Barcelona T-shirts – Barcelona Vacation Comfort T-Shirt, Barcelona Tee, Barcelona Euro Trip Shirt, and Barcelona Sweatshirt.
These Spain-themed pieces could also work for any outfit – Spain Outline Sweatshirt, Espana Sweatshirt Minimalist, Don Quixote Art Shirt, Spain is Calling, Sevilla Oranges T-shirt, Salvador Dali The Divine Comedy T-Shirt, Costa del Sol Vintage, Madrid Comfort Spain, Valencia Spain Oranges Tee Shirt, and Seville Shirt Flamenco.

Spanish Jewelry
Spain is home to an incredible array of talented jewelry creators, each offering unique pieces that will leave you spoilt for choice. Whether you’re seeking something subtle or bold, the creativity and craftsmanship in Spanish jewelry are unmatched.
One standout designer is Kitxeti from Seville, whose clay creations are inspired by the timeless beauty of Spanish ceramics. Whether you’re dressing up or keeping it casual, these designs add a touch of Andalusian flair to your wardrobe.
For those who love the intricate art of macramé, CateMacramor is a perfect choice. She creates stunning macramé earrings and necklaces that can instantly elevate any outfit, especially for a night out in Spain.
And if you’re looking for something more casual yet equally stylish, OnaBrasalets in Barcelona has a collection of bracelets and accessories that are perfect for everyday wear. These simple yet chic designs can be worn with anything, making them the ideal souvenir or gift to carry with you wherever you go.
More shops to find unique Spanish Jewelry: Pastacuita, ARANJEWELS, Lunaijewelry, Nimiajoies, AlwaysDreamJewels, MariquillaSandia, ArtDuranStudio, and nueijoyasdecrsital.

Satin midi-skirts
One of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe is the satin midi skirt – effortless to wear and suitable for just about any occasion. It’s the kind of item that can be dressed up or down with minimal effort, making it a perfect choice for creating a range of stylish looks in Spain. Whether I’m strolling through the streets of Seville or enjoying an evening out in Madrid, this skirt always feels like the right choice.
I love to pair it with my Converse for a relaxed, street-style vibe, though it also looks stunning with heels for a more polished, evening-ready look. I have two that I rotate in my wardrobe: one in a deep, rich navy blue and another with a bold leopard print that adds a touch of wild flair to any outfit.
While I dream of owning a Mulberry silk slip skirt – a true luxury piece – the practical side of me knows that satin is far easier to care for when I’m on the go. Satin still offers that gorgeous, fluid drape, and it’s simply more forgiving, making it the perfect option for travel or busy days when I want to look effortlessly chic without the worry of delicate fabrics.
It’s the kind of skirt that can take you from a sunny afternoon in a café to an evening sunset, making it one of those timeless, essential pieces for any well-rounded wardrobe.

Colorful Bag Straps
A handmade bag strap is one of the most creative ways to give a personal touch to your favorite purse or camera, turning an everyday accessory into something truly unique. It’s amazing how such a small detail can transform the entire vibe of your look, making it feel fresh and personal every time you carry it.
Mariasvalley, a talented artisan from Valencia, creates stunning, handcrafted bag straps that not only enhance the beauty of any bag but also offer comfort and durability. Whether you’re using it to carry your purse, camera, or even a travel bag, these straps are designed to distribute weight evenly across your shoulder, making it much more comfortable to carry your essentials throughout the day.
The beauty of bag straps lies in their versatility. They offer endless opportunities to mix and match with your outfits, allowing you to easily switch them out depending on your mood or style for the day. A pop of color, a bit of texture, or an intricate design can instantly elevate your look, making your bag feel like new with every change.
If you’ve ever had a worn-out strap or found yourself wishing for a more functional or stylish solution for your favorite bag, a handmade strap could be the perfect answer. Not only do they offer a refreshing new take on an old favorite, but they also serve a practical purpose. When traveling or on the go, they can help secure your belongings, making it easier to carry everything close to your body for added security.
In a world where personalized details make all the difference, a bag strap is the perfect way to give your accessories a touch of individuality while keeping things functional and stylish. Linen
Linen is truly one of the most exquisite fabrics, revered for its lightweight, breathable, and thermoregulating properties. There’s something undeniably magical about the way it feels on the skin, especially during the long, sun-soaked days of summer in Spain. The airy texture and natural coolness of linen make it the perfect fabric for warm weather, offering both comfort and style in equal measure.
What I adore most about linen is how effortlessly it blends casual ease with a touch of refined elegance. Whether it’s a laid-back beach day or an evening stroll through the city, linen outfits always seem to have that perfect balance. The beauty of linen lies in its relaxed, often loose-fitting designs, which suit all body types and sizes with grace. It’s a fabric that feels as good as it looks, effortlessly flattering and comfortable for people of all ages and shapes.
For me, my creamy linen set has become a staple I wear time and time again. Its soft, neutral tone makes it incredibly versatile, and I love how easy it is to dress up or down depending on the occasion. The effortless elegance it exudes is perfect for any Spanish getaway, from coastal towns to bustling city streets.
This year, I’m planning to expand my collection with a few colorful linen pieces to add some vibrancy to my wardrobe:
- Linen Skirt with Asymmetrical Length
- Linen Wrap Dress
- Japanese style linen kimono
- Ice Blue Linen Crop Top & Midi Skirt Set
- Linen Crop Top & Flared Midi Skirt

- Natural linen shorts & vest
- Cross-back Linen Dress
- Women’s linen dress
- Ankle length linen skirt
- Linen Wrap Skirt
- Long linen skirt with tie belt
- Linen Skirt Button Opening

I’ve also recently invested in linen bed sheets, and I honestly can’t imagine my life without them now. The way they feel against the skin is pure luxury – cool to the touch in the summer and cozy enough for cooler nights. There’s something so effortlessly elegant about linen bedding, and it instantly adds a relaxed, sophisticated vibe to any bedroom. I’ve noticed that I sleep so much better, too – the breathability of linen ensures that I stay comfortable throughout the night, no matter the temperature.
If you’re looking for high-quality linen pieces, you can find the most beautiful selections at the storefronts of LinenSWANclothing, TheBestLinen, LINENIDstudio, OldLinenMill, and TouchableLINEN.

Boho
Bohemian clothing is the perfect fusion of boldness and romance. There’s something enchanting about the way it combines vibrant colors, free-spirited designs, and flowing fabrics – it feels both daring and effortless. Many trace the origins of boho culture back to the late 18th century, following the French Revolution, when artists and intellectuals embraced a lifestyle of rebellion, creativity, and artistic freedom. The eclectic mix of patterns, textures, and natural elements found in bohemian outfits evokes a sense of a nomadic life, where every day is an adventure in style.
Boho clothing is ideal for packing when visiting the Spanish islands, where the warm sun, relaxed vibe, and stunning landscapes make it the perfect backdrop for this carefree aesthetic. I still remember the first time I wore a bohemian dress during a trip to Ibiza, and it was love at first sight. The way the dress fluttered in the breeze, paired with the effortless elegance of the style, perfectly matched the island’s laid-back, yet vibrant atmosphere. Since then, I’ve embraced the boho style for many of my travels, as it’s not just fashionable but also comfortable and practical for exploring new places.
Here are a few great shops to find unique bohemian clothing & jewelry: SANUKA, ThalutaBohoWear, madeAbroad, Ethnicqueen, Malamalaka, NORTHBOHEME, lovethesunmoon, GardenbelleDesigns, and LatelierDeSonja.

Beach&Shopping
When it comes to essentials on the go, there are two items I simply can’t live without: an Organic cotton mesh bag and a Foldable shopping bag. These two pieces are small in size but huge in practicality. They take up virtually no space in my luggage, yet they’re incredibly handy when I’m out and about, whether I’m heading to the beach or popping into local souvenir shops during my travels in Spain.
The best part? Both of these bags are eco-friendly, making them a conscious choice for those who care about sustainability while traveling.
