What to wear in Spain
Summer weather in Spain
Summer weather in most of Spain is generally warm to hot, with temperatures varying across the country. Exceptions include the Pyrenees and Northern Spain (including the regions of the Basque Country, Asturias, Galicia, La Rioja, and Navarra, where summer temperatures are moderate, and there’s a high chance of occasional rain).
In the Spanish capital, Madrid, average summer temperatures range from 30-35°C (86-95°F), though mornings and evenings might make you want to cover up with light layers.
Meanwhile, in Barcelona and Valencia, along the Mediterranean coast, temperatures are slightly cooler, averaging around 28-30°C (82-86°F), and you won’t typically notice the morning and evening chill when the sun is down.
In the southern coastal areas, you rarely need layers. In cities like Malaga and Granada, temperatures often reach 30-35°C (86-95°F).
Seville is one of the hottest cities in the country, with summer highs frequently reaching 35-40°C (95-104°F), so I don’t recommend visiting in summer unless you’re comfortable with such high temperatures.
In contrast, Northern Spain destinations like San Sebastian and Bilbao are much milder, with temperatures averaging 22-25°C (72-77°F). You’ll definitely need layers and an umbrella for the entirety of Northern Spain due to cooler temperatures and rain.
Overall, Spain’s summer is ideal for enjoying beaches and outdoor activities. The southern and central regions have the driest, most intense heat, while the Mediterranean regions are more pleasant, usually warm to hot but less exhausting due to the coastal breeze. The northern regions, including the Pyrenees, are best for those who prefer moderate temperatures and don’t mind occasional rain.
Outfits to wear in Spain
Whether you’re planning an epic summer vacation in Spain or looking for new outfit ideas for your upcoming Europe trip, you’ll find plenty of my personal favorites for summer wear in Spain. You’ll also find a few handy downloadable PDFs in this Spain Packing List post.
In the meantime, let’s focus on the beautiful details and unique wardrobe pieces I often pack for my trips across Spain during the summer months. After my recent articles on Clean Travel Beauty Essentials, Eco makeup favorites, and hiking must-haves became popular, I decided to share more Spain outfits and clothing items from my wardrobe (and wishlist). While I’m not a fashion or beauty blogger, I still enjoy looking good on the go. For me, clothing is definitely a form of self-expression, and looking good and feeling good on the move go hand in hand. Inspiring outfits often spark my creativity while traveling.
Dressing for the occasion, being open to experiments, curating my signature looks, and paying attention to the details – all these form part of my daily life in Spain. Therefore, based on my favorites, I’ve put together this list of cool things you can wear in Spain in summer.

- high-quality paper straw, fashionable, functional, and stylish brimmed beach sun hats for women
- UV UPF sun protection with full brim
- Packable and foldable, easy to carry no matter in bag or suitcase for travel or holidays

My Favorite Outfits & Clothing Items
Handmade Bags from Spain
One of my favorite Spanish bags ever is La fallera pouch by Cuartitodelostrastos which embraces the cultural heritage of the Valencia region. It is made from the unique silk fabric, used to create exclusive traditional dresses for the Festival of Las Fallas – one of the most iconic festivities in Spain. I remember back when I received this art piece at home, I spent almost 30 minutes looking at it from different angles (cause every detail was so pretty). This bag makes you feel yourself European royalty for a moment… I love pairing it with a little black dress to glam up for a night out.
Other cute bags I enjoy matching with my Spain outfits are Woven Rattan Messenger Bag, Wicker handbag, and Bamboo Handbag. Also, I plan to get this Crochet Raffia Summer Shopper Bag, Brown Handcrafted Wooden Clutch, Statement Crossbody Leather Purse, and Handmade Raffia Pouch Clutch.

The Pilgrimage paved the way to Paulo Coelho’s international bestselling novel The Alchemist. In many ways, these two volumes are companions—to truly comprehend one, you must read the other. Step inside this captivating account of Coelho’s pilgrimage along the road to Santiago. This fascinating parable explores the need to find one’s own path. In the end, we discover that the extraordinary is always found in the ordinary and simple ways of everyday people. Part adventure story, part guide to self-discovery, this compelling tale delivers the perfect combination of enchantment and insight.

The author and actress chronicles her extraordinary journey along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain--the famous pilgrimage route that has been taken by pilgrims ranging from St. Francis of Assisi and Charlemagne to Dante and Chaucer. 200,000 first printing.

Keith Foskett's travelogs have been shortlisted for Outdoor Book of the Year multiple times by The Great Outdoors magazine. Awash with vivid descriptions and a cast of engaging real-life characters, the author delivers a humorous and mesmerizing tale of adventure and metamorphosis.
The Journey in Between is a daring travel memoir. If you like indulging your inner adventurer, taking the less popular fork in the road, and visiting foreign locations, then you'll love this transformative tale.
Spanish Espadrilles
One of the best ways to rock your summer in Spain is to get a pair of handmade Spanish espadrilles.
Las alpargatas (the Spanish name for espadrilles) have their origins in the countryside. Years ago it was essential to have resistant footwear with a thick sole. At the same time, the warm temperatures of sun-kissed Spain required significant breathability.
With time espadrilles evolved from a daily must-have to a unique piece of stylish apparel.
Nowadays, a pair of locally-made espadrilles is one of the coolest Valencia gifts to elevate any look. While espadrilles are largely produced by different brands around the world, there is nothing like a pair of Spanish alpargatas.
CristinaLagardera creates a wide range of colorful handmade espadrilles from Valencia. Also, I own a pair of espadrilles from the Spanish brand Castañer.

Crochet
Crochet is my latest obsession…
With the warm Spanish summers, a cute handmade crochet top is another great clothing piece to wear in Spain. Crochet fits the bill when it comes to effortless it-girl style.
Made from lightweight and breathable fibers, crochet clothing is so comfortable. Inma from Magic Creaciones makes a wide range of unique garments to rock any Mediterranean outfit, from colorful tops to nude bikinis or hats.
I have recently purchased this Crochet top (it fits tightly, so get one size larger for loose-fitting) and this Crochet Bikini (in chocolate) for the upcoming beach season.

Artsy T-shirts & Sweatshirts
These days even a simple T-shirt can serve as a source of inspiration and can help to make a personal statement. I love graphic tees with inspirational Spanish designs. This Dali T-shirt matches both denim and a classy suit.
Here are a few cool Ibiza T-shirts – Ibiza Is Always A Good Idea, Meet Me In Ibiza Tee, Ibiza Beach Retro Shirt; or Barcelona T-shirts – Barcelona Vacation Comfort T-Shirt, Barcelona Tee, Barcelona Euro Trip Shirt, and Barcelona Sweatshirt.
These Spain-themed pieces could also work for any outfit – Spain Outline Sweatshirt, Espana Sweatshirt Minimalist, Don Quixote Art Shirt, Spain is Calling, Sevilla Oranges T-shirt, Salvador Dali The Divine Comedy T-Shirt, Salvador Dali Print T-Shirt, Costa del Sol Vintage, Meet Me In Spain, Madrid Comfort Spain, Valencia Spain Oranges Tee Shirt, and Seville Shirt Flamenco.

Spanish Jewelry
There are so many unique jewelry creators across Spain – you’ll be spoilt for choices.
Kitxeti from Seville offers a selection of clay designs inspired by Spanish Ceramics that can easily match any outfit or season. CateMacramor creates beautiful macramé earrings and necklaces that can elevate any night-out outfit. If you plan to go out in Spain – this is a great way to give any look an extra fiesta touch
From the heart of Barcelona YuuJewels presents a unique selection of vibrant and elegant jewelry, handmade of bronze and 925 silver. One of their most unique pieces is the adjustable Gaudi-inspired ring. It could be one of the most unique Barcelona gifts to embrace your artsy connection with the city.
If you are looking for casual Barcelona gifts to wear with you anywhere, set your eyes on OnaBrasalets.
More shops to find unique Spanish Jewelry: Pastacuita, ARANJEWELS, Lunaijewelry, Nimiajoies, AlwaysDreamJewels, LangostinoCristalino, MariquillaSandia, ArtDuranStudio, and nueijoyasdecrsital,

Dali fans might also like Salvador Dali earrings, Dali melting clock, and Hand-painted Salvador Dali Earrings.
Satin midi-skirt
Another great item to create multiple Spain outfits is a satin midi skirt, easy to wear and appropriate for almost every occasion. I often pair it with my Converse (as much as I do with heels though). I own one in dark blue and another one with a leopard print.
It would be great to get a Mulberry silk slip skirt, but for now, I feel like satin is simply harder to ruin on the go.

Colorful Bag Straps
A handmade bag strap is one of the coolest things to give a personal touch to your favorite purse or camera.
Mariasvalley from Valencia creates beautiful bag straps that can help you carry anything comfortably on your shoulder. The best thing about bag straps is that they give you endless outfit opportunities, and can be easily changed depending on your mood.
If you need to change a worn-out broken strap or find new uses for your favorite bag – bag straps might be the answer! Additionally, the straps can add to securing your valuables on the road (these help to carry all your personal belongings around your body).
You might have seen me wearing this Adjustable Purse Strap and this Art Tribute camera strap on IG @at_lifestyle_crossroads.

Linen
Linen is one of the most lightweight, breathable, and thermoregulating fabrics ever. It is so comfy to wear in Spain during the summer months. Spain outfits with linen elements are both casual and elegant. Plus, most of the linen pieces are designed to have a loose fit, perfect for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes.
No wonder I do wear my creamy linen set so often. Even more so, I plan to get other colorful pieces this year.
Here are some of my wishlist favorites: Linen Skirt with Asymmetrical Length, Linen Wrap Dress, Japanese style linen kimono, Ice Blue Linen Crop Top & Midi Skirt Set, Linen Crop Top & Flared Midi Skirt, Natural Linen Pajama set, Natural linen shorts & vest, Cross-back Linen Dress, Women’s linen dress, Ankle length linen skirt, Linen Wrap Skirt, Long linen skirt with tie belt, Linen Skirt Button Opening, Linen loose pants, Linen wrap top, Maxi linen dress, and Linen wrap top.
Also, I have recently bought linen bed sheets and now can not imagine my life without them.
You can find the most beautiful quality pieces at the storefronts of LinenSWANclothing, TheBestLinen, LINENIDstudio, OldLinenMill, and TouchableLINEN.

Boho
Bohemian clothing feels both flashy and romantic.
Many believe that boho culture was founded in the late 18th century, following the French Revolution. With all these colorful, carefree, and fluid fabrics, bohemian outfits remind me of a nomadic lifestyle.
Boho clothing items are some of the best things to pack for visiting the Spanish islands. I got my first bohemian dress for visiting Ibiza and loved this style ever since.
Here are a few great shops to find unique bohemian clothing & jewelry: SANUKA, ThalutaBohoWear, madeAbroad, Ethnicqueen, Malamalaka, NORTHBOHEME, lovethesunmoon, GardenbelleDesigns, and LatelierDeSonja.

Spanish Fan
A fan is one of the most beautiful cultural symbols in Spain.
While the tradition itself can be traced to the 15th century, a fan is still considered one of the most unique gifts one can bring home from Spain. While a cool draft of air might be a pleasant addition to any sightseeing plan, during the summer months in Spain, a fan turns into a must-have on the go.
Maria Jose from DeAnita creates some of the most unique fans I have ever seen. Her designs are true works of art.

The fan is so iconic in Spanish culture! I still have several of my grandmother’s that she gave me over the years. I don’t use them anymore for fear of breaking them. So glad you mentioned them here.
