What is a popular blossom in Spain?
I’d say that the most famous blossom in Spain is the cherry blossoms of Valle del Jerte in Extremadura, thanks to its huge territories with 1.5 million blooming trees.
What are the spring flowers in Spain?
While there are many spring flowers in Spain, the most unique blooms are cherry blossoms, almond blossoms, poppies, and wisteria.

Spanish Flower Fields
Whether you dream of discovering new Instagrammable spots in Spain, want to connect with nature, or simply enjoy seeing flowers in full bloom, this post will reveal top blossoming locations you can’t miss on your Spain travel bucket list. Many scientific studies suggest that spending time in natural settings can improve our mood. Nature is one of the best forms of therapy, and it’s absolutely free and available to everyone. After 15 years of extensive travel across Spain, I’ve put together a list of the most beautiful flower fields and blooms to experience a splash of color. While most of these represent spring, keep in mind that lavender and sunflowers reach their peak in the summer. Still, I couldn’t leave them off this list of stunning Spanish flower spots. So, where can you find the prettiest flowers in Spain?
Flowers in Spain: The Prettiest Blossoms Not To Miss
1. Cherry Blossoms
Cherry blossoms are one of the most popular symbols of spring worldwide. From late March to early April, you can enjoy them in the Valle del Jerte area in Cáceres, located in the province of Extremadura. The region hosts a cherry blossom festival called the “Fiesta del Cerezo en Flor,” where you can experience local gastronomy, themed events, and stunning views of 1.5 million cherry trees at the peak of their bloom. If you decide to drive through the cherry blossoms of Valle del Jerte, your main stops should be the villages of Valdastillas, Piornal, Barrado, Cabrero, Casas del Castañar, El Torno, and Rebollar. The route is only 50 kilometers long, but it’s definitely worth experiencing at least once.
Alternatively, you can find cherry tree plantations in Torres (Jaén, Andalusia) and La Salzadella (Castellón, Valencian Community). La Salzadella also hosts a fair called the “Feria de La Cereza Arte y Tradición,” where you can find local artisan products, freshly picked cherries, and a special Cherry Menu (similar to the one I shared in my Hazelnut Gastronomic Weeks post, but with cherries as the star ingredient). The cherry fair in Salzadella is not internationally known, although it attracts many visitors from the Valencia Province.

2. Yellow Rapeseed Fields
You might have seen those epic yellow rapeseed fields across Europe. Germany, France, Italy, England – everywhere is covered with this magical yellow blanket from April to May. In my case, this picture was taken in April during my trip to Ibiza, one of the best Spanish islands. In Spain, yellow rapeseed fields are also common in the rural landscapes of Castile-Leon, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community.

3. Poppy Fields
While talking about flowers in Spain, we cannot forget poppies. You can find them from April to May near Toledo and along the Don Quixote Route in the Castile-La Mancha province. A beautiful location to enjoy the poppy fields is the small Spanish town of Montalban. Besides admiring the stunning orange-red flowers, you can also spot an ancient fortress from the times of the Spanish Reconquista in the backdrop.

4. Sunflower fields
The most sun-kissed flowers in Spain are definitely sunflowers. One popular location to catch a glimpse of the endless sunflower fields is in La Bureba in Burgos. After visiting the Burgos Cathedral, one of the most beautiful religious landmarks in Spain, you can enjoy a drive from Briviesca to Poza de la Sal in search of the sunflower fields. Additionally, the vast majority of sunflowers in Spain can be found in Castille-La Mancha and Andalusia (e.g., Antequera or Carmona) during the summer months of June and July.

5. Almond Tree Blossoms
If you love Spanish food, you might have noticed that almonds are often a key ingredient in many local dishes and food souvenirs. It’s no surprise, as almond trees can be found throughout the country. Spain is the second-largest producer of almonds in the world. This means there are plenty of beautiful locations to welcome spring, surrounded by almond blossoms. If you want to enjoy the blossoms without driving to the countryside, visit Quinta de los Molinos Park in Madrid (usually from mid to late February). If you’re visiting the Canary Islands, don’t miss the “Fiesta del Almendro en Flor” in Tejeda, near Las Palmas (from the end of January to early February).
6. Lavender fields

Lavender was one of the most unexpected flowers in Spain for me. Despite the popular cliché, lavender fields are no longer an exclusive feature of the French region of Provence. There are quite a few locations to enjoy the marvelous lavender scent in Spain around July: Brihuega (Guadalajara), El Bierzo (Castille-Leon), Ossa de Montiel (Albacete), and Moratalla (Murcia). For more details, check out this post.
7. Wildflower fields
In case you’re still dreaming of the colorful flowers in Spain but missed the cherry blossoms or sunflowers due to their seasonality, google the nearest hike in the Spanish countryside (Spring-Summer-early Autumn) and enjoy some wildflowers along the way. These gorgeous blooms were spotted during my Millenary Olive Trees hike in Castellon.

8. Peach Blossoms
If you like pink blossoms don´t miss peach trees of Calanda in Cieza, Murcia and Aitona, visited during my recent trip to Lleida. The peach trees in Spain usually flower at the end of March.

Ah yes, such beautiful flowers in the spring. Your photos are stunning! This really is a beautiful time of year. I’m sad when the early blooms fall and go green!
Those are really lovely shots. They make me so impatient for spring to really get here for real. I love the blooms!
Such beautiful flower fields, these picture are breathtaking.
I have always associated cherry blossom trees with Japan, so it’s cool that Spain is also known for them. The Fiesta del Cerezo en Flor sounds like a really fun event to celebrate them. I also didn’t know that Spain is a big producer of almonds. The sunflowers in Burgos were my favorite from the list. What a cool photo!
Oh the Peach trees looks amazing!
But do you sunflowers blossom during spring? Ours in Sweden does not blossom until late august 🙂
Amazing spring flowers!! That would be so cool to visit Spain someday.
I never thought that Spain is also known for cherry blossoms. I only know Japan. Now, I have more reasons to go to Spain someday. <3
