Spanish Cuisine

Spanish food as a lifestyle

Blog readers would already know that Spanish cuisine forms a huge part of my expat life. My healthy habits and routines usually get overshadowed by trying as many local dishes as I possibly can while on the go.

I barely regret those guilty pleasures though. Especially since the foodie adventures seem to find me all the time: no matter whether it´s about Spanish festivities, Gastronomic Weeks, Food of the Villages, or even making an authentic Valencian Paella with my in-laws on Sundays. Living and traveling in Spain comes with a foodie tag.

The good news is that nowadays you do not always need to jump on a plane to satisfy your food cravings. There are lots of things that might allow you to have your very own piece of Spain at home: Coffee Table Books about Spain, Modern Spanish Novels, Trendy TV Shows, and even Spain Board Games.

Nevertheless, it´s Spanish Cookbooks that usually provide the best virtual travel experience for the foodies across the globe.

Healthy Mediterranean Diet

With Spanish food you can easily kill two birds with one shot: enjoy a delicious meal and also add to your health thanks to the well-known benefits of the Mediterranean diet.

The typical recipes of Spain vary a lot across different regions of the Iberian Peninsula, but in my experience, even Spaniards love mixing those tastes at home. For instance, paella is considered a Valencian dish, but you can find it across the whole of Spain. Back when I lived in Pamplona, I had local friends eating paella on Sundays every week, just the way we do it over here in the Valencian Community.

Let´s discuss Spanish Cookbooks you might enjoy having in your own kitchen. While these days one can find lots of recipes online, cooking in the company of a visually-inspiring book is still my personal favorite.

Made in Spain: Spanish Dishes for the American Kitchen is one of the most unique Spanish cookbooks since it was created by an award-winning chef Jose Andres. Jose Pizarro is a popular Spanish chef from the region of Extremadura. His book The Spanish Home Kitchen: Simple, Seasonal Recipes and Memories from My Home includes 80 favorite recipes from the heart of chef Spanish family home.
