Family-friendly Festivals in Spain

Why to visit festivals with kids?

Family-friendly festivals in Spain offer a vibrant and immersive way for families to experience the country’s rich culture and traditions. Spain is globally renowned for its iconic festivities that captivate both children and adults alike. From the spectacular parades of Las Fallas and the Sexenni in Morella to the internationally celebrated Rototom Sunsplash, these events provide a unique opportunity to enjoy music, dancing, games, and kid-friendly workshops, all while creating unforgettable family memories. Here’s a list of the top festivals in Spain that you can enjoy with kids.

Unique Spanish Festivals to visit with kids

1. Rototom Sunsplash in Benicassim

The Rototom Sunsplash festival is held annually in August in the picturesque Spanish town of Benicassim. It’s a vibrant celebration of reggae music that draws people from all over the world.

This year was my first time attending the Rototom Festival with kids (you can check out more details on Instagram and TikTok). It was such a fun experience to enjoy the family-friendly workshops together, especially since it was my girls’ very first international festival. Living in a small Spanish town, I often feel they miss out on the multicultural exposure I want them to have, and the Rototom Festival provides the perfect environment for them to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.

While the festival showcases an impressive lineup of international reggae stars, it’s also a fantastic opportunity to discover new artists. During my visit, I had the chance to enjoy the legendary performance of Burning Spear but also stumbled upon Iseo & Dodosound, an incredible group from Navarra that I hadn’t heard before.

Rototom takes pride in being a family-friendly event. Each year, it offers a variety of workshops and activities suitable for all ages, making it a great experience for families. Beyond music and culture, the Rototom Festival emphasizes values like volunteering, cooperation, social responsibility, and solidarity. The festival provides a platform for non-profits to share their projects and distribute informational materials. You’ll find tents hosting representatives from numerous charities and NGOs, where you can easily choose a cause to support with a donation. Rototom is one of the most unique family-friendly festivals in Spain, celebrating music, culture, and community.

2. Las Fallas in Valencia

Visiting Las Fallas in Valencia with kids is an unforgettable experience, full of color and creativity. This famous festival is held annually in March. One of the main attractions of Las Fallas is the stunning fallas monuments—sculptures made of wood and papier-mâché—that take over the streets of Valencia. For children, seeing these larger-than-life characters can be magical, as the figures often feature cartoon-like elements and vibrant designs.

In addition to the impressive fallas, the festival offers a variety of parades, workshops, and activities for families. From flower offerings to live performances and fireworks displays, there are plenty of events to ignite the imagination of the little ones. The atmosphere of local parades, traditional costumes, lively dancers, and marching bands provides entertainment for the whole family.

Attending Las Fallas is a chance to immerse your kids in Spanish culture and tradition while learning about Valencian history, the meaning behind the fallas, and the important role this festival plays in the local community. You can read more about our visit to Las Fallas with kids in this post.

3. Minimusica – Primavera Sound in Barcelona

Minimusica is a vibrant and engaging music festival in Barcelona designed specifically for children aged three and up. It is part of the famous Primavera Sound festival and takes place at the beginning of June. This unique event provides a fantastic opportunity for kids to explore music in a fun and interactive environment. With a variety of activities, this family-friendly festival offers an enriching experience that encourages creativity and self-expression.

At Minimusica, children can participate in hands-on workshops where they can engage in crafts, create their own instruments, and even compose songs. These activities foster a sense of imagination, allowing kids to immerse themselves in the world of music. This unique event makes it an ideal outing for families looking to introduce their children to the joys of music during their family holidays in Spain.
