Top Things to do in Krabi

Is Krabi Worth Visiting?

Krabi is a great place to visit, featuring 80 islands and several national parks. It’s a popular destination for adventure seekers. Additionally, Krabi is home to some of Thailand’s most beautiful beaches, such as Railay Beach, Ao Nang, and Phra Nang Beach. For adventure lovers, it offers activities like kayaking in the mangroves, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

Two main concerns travelers express about Krabi are overtourism and pollution, and both are valid. Popular areas like Railay Beach and Ao Nang can get quite crowded, especially during peak tourist seasons. Additionally, it’s not uncommon to see litter on the beaches or in the water. Nevertheless, in my opinion, Krabi is filled with unique experiences that make it worth a visit.

How to get to Krabi?

Krabi International Airport (KBV) is the main airport serving the region. Several international airlines operate direct flights to Krabi. Alternatively, you can reach Krabi via connecting flights from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, or Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, Krabi is connected to the Thai cities of Bangkok and Phuket by bus service.

Where to stay in Krabi?

Krabi, Thailand, is a stunning destination that offers a variety of accommodations to suit different preferences and budgets. The most popular places to stay are Ao Nang and Railay Beach, while more budget-friendly alternatives can be found in Krabi Town.

7 Incredible Experiences in Krabi, Thailand

1. Explore the beaches of Krabi

Can you ever get tired of picture-perfect white-sand beaches? I don’t know about you, but it’s never enough for me. Just when I think I’ve seen it all, I stumble upon another beach that takes my breath away. Krabi is full of moments like this, so having some laid-back beach time is one of the top things to do in Krabi. We owe it to ourselves, don’t we?

Check out Ao Nang Beach, Railay Beach, Phra Nang Beach, and Noppharat Thara Beach. These spots can get crowded during the day, so for a more secluded experience, head out early in the morning—you can also catch a magnificent sunrise! By the way, sunsets in Thailand are some of the most beautiful in the world, too.

2. Go island hopping

Phra Nang Cave Beach makes Krabi a destination worth visiting

Usually, the island-hopping tour in Krabi consists of four small, charming islands where you can enjoy the sun and the shimmering blue water. I really loved Railay Beach and Phra Nang Cave Beach. And where else have you seen an island that looks like a chicken?

3. Eat at the street food market

A trip to Thailand wouldn’t be complete without trying the local cuisine. Some of the best dishes I enjoyed were at the Krabi Street Food Market. My two personal favorites were Tom Yum soup and Pad Thai.

However, be careful – it can get hot! A few times when I was asked whether I wanted my dish to be spicy, I said “Yes” and immediately regretted it every single time. European spicy and Thai spicy have two completely different meanings, so watch out!

4. Have a relaxing massage

Another top thing to do in Krabi that you can’t miss is getting a massage. There are massage salons at almost every turn, so you won’t have to search far to find one. I’ve tried various types of massages there, including foot, back, Thai, and a general relaxing massage. The latter was my favorite; it really helped me sleep better after some of the outdoor activities I had done.

5. Do some shopping

Let’s be honest: sometimes you need a break from lounging on the beach all day. Going shopping is always a good idea! Although Krabi has higher prices than Pattaya, it offers quite an interesting experience. The streets are lined with stalls that have everything you need, so be prepared to bargain a lot!

6. Go kayaking through the mangrove forest

Ao Thalane is considered one of the most beautiful mangrove forests in Thailand and is definitely one of my top recommendations for things to do in Krabi. Paddling through the hidden passageways while admiring the unique flora and fauna of this area is truly magnificent. It’s an unforgettable experience!

7. Visit Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua)

There are various legends about Tiger Cave Temple, all of which are connected to a tiger that either lived in one of the caves or roamed around them. However, the most incredible experience at this temple comes after you climb to the mountain top.

Be cautious: the initial steps are narrow and steep, and there are monkeys ready to snatch anything you have. They also dislike it when people try to take photos of them. Trust me, you don’t want to see them jumping on you and stealing your phone. Once you overcome these challenges and climb the 1,237 steps to the top in the heat, you will reach a place of complete peace and tranquility. A large golden Buddha statue, along with breathtaking views, will make you understand why this journey was worth it.
