Halloween at PortAventura is one of the bucket-list experiences for families to enjoy in Spain this October and November. Here are my honest impressions and tips after visiting the theme park with my kids this fall.

Why You Can’t Miss Halloween at PortAventura

This weekend I enjoyed Halloween at PortAventura, and if you’re visiting Spain in October or November, I highly recommend including the theme park in your itinerary. The Halloween vibes and decorations this year are absolutely spectacular – better than I remember from my last Halloween visit a few years ago. This year, PortAventura Park celebrates its 30th anniversary, and it truly feels like they’ve gone all out to make the atmosphere even more immersive and flashy.

If you visit Spain regularly, you’ve probably noticed how much Halloween has grown in popularity over the years. When I moved here 15 years ago, it was almost impossible to find a proper Halloween-themed party with costumes outside of big cities like Barcelona or Madrid.

Now, even small towns across Spain are hosting Halloween events and parades for kids. But if you’re a fan of spooky vibes and over-the-top decorations, PortAventura is easily one of the best places to experience Halloween in Spain during October and early November.

This was probably my seventh time visiting PortAventura overall, but only my second Halloween visit – and I can confidently say Halloween is one of my favorite times to go.

Halloween at PortAventura: What to Expect

Halloween at PortAventura lasts almost two months – from September 20 to November 11 – so there’s plenty of time to visit even if you’re not in Spain on October 31.

During this period, the park is packed with:

• Vibrant Halloween decorations
• Stunning Halloween-themed shows (check out the list here)
• A spooky parade and fireworks show after dark

The parade and fireworks usually start after the attractions close, around 8:30 – 8:45 PM. Even the restaurants embrace the season with special food and Halloween-themed menus, and the souvenir shops are full of spooky merch – from T-shirts to toys.

Is PortAventura Good to Visit in October?

October is actually one of my favorite months to visit the PortAventura park: The Halloween theme gives everything a unique and festive vibe and the weather is ideal – around 22–25°C (72–77°F) during the day, often feeling like summer without the intense heat of peak season. Just make sure to bring some layers – it can get chilly in the shade or at night, especially after sunset.

Is PortAventura Busy at Halloween?

Halloween is a popular time to visit the PortAventura theme park, but I found it much less crowded than during the summer when most European tourists are on vacation. My last visit before this one was during the summer, and while it was fun, I enjoyed the October visit much more.

Which Spanish Theme Park Has the Best Halloween?

In my opinion, PortAventura is the best theme park in Spain – especially when it comes to Halloween. Their decorations are incredibly stylish and detailed, and you can see the extra effort this year for the 30th anniversary. I’ve been visiting for almost 20 years, and I’m still impressed with how well-maintained the park is. That’s not always the case elsewhere in Spain – Terra Mítica in Benidorm, for example, feels noticeably more worn out in comparison.

Are There Fireworks Every Night at Halloween?

This year, PortAventura features a special daily Halloween fireworks show around 8:45 PM at the lake in the Mediterranean-themed area of the park. Since most rides close between 8:00–8:30 PM, crowds naturally gather in that area. If you’re visiting with small kids and want a good view, I recommend arriving early to grab a front-row spot – or be ready to lift them up on your shoulders! Even if you arrive later, you’ll still see the fireworks, but the full lake show is best enjoyed from the front.

Is Halloween at PortAventura Worth It?

If you’re planning a trip to Spain this fall, Halloween at PortAventura is 100% worth it – especially with kids. It’s spooky, fun, and beautifully done. Between the weather, the special shows, and the unique atmosphere, it’s a perfect autumn getaway.

How Long to Stay at PortAventura During Halloween

The best way to fully enjoy PortAventura them park during Halloween is to stay 2–3 days at one of the official PortAventura hotels: Hotel PortAventura, Hotel El Paso, Hotel Gold River, Hotel Mansión de Lucy, Hotel Colorado Creek, and Hotel Caribe. This way, you get direct and easy access to the park each day, which can make a big difference – especially in the mornings.

If you’re not staying in a PortAventura hotel, you’ll likely miss the advantage of entering the park right at opening time, when there are little to no lines for the most popular rides. While the parking system is efficient and moves quickly, many people arrive right at opening, so by the time you park and walk to the entrance, you’ve already lost the quietest time of the day.

If your children are really small – under 5 years old, for example – you might be fine with just a one-day visit, as there are still fewer rides suitable for that age group. However, if your kids are like mine – 6 or 7 years old and around 130–140 cm tall – there are already lots of rides available, including many that are fun for the whole family. With this height, they can join most of the attractions when accompanied by an adult. So, honestly, one day is not enough especially during the Halloween season. Between the rides, shows, parades, special Halloween events, and themed decorations, there’s simply too much to enjoy in just a single day.

As someone who has visited PortAventura multiple times with kids – from when they were babies and toddlers to our most recent visit in 2024 when they were 5 and 6 – I’ve clearly seen the difference. When they were little, we could do most of what we wanted in a day. But this year, even without waiting in long lines for the most popular rides, we didn’t manage to test all the rides and see even half of the Halloween shows.

How to Include PortAventura Park in Your Spain Itinerary

If you’re planning to visit Spain for more than 2–3 days, you can combine a trip to PortAventura during Halloween with a 4-day Barcelona itinerary, a weekend in Reus, a Tarragona road trip, a 10-day Spain itinerary for families, or even make a stop at the park while traveling between Barcelona and Valencia.
