Do we need a skincare? My Skin Beauty Products
Today it is so hard to find something that really works for your skin, the world beauty market is full of stuff and often the best brands are the most unknown or even hard to find. But do we need a skincare at all? Or are we the simple victims of great marketing campaigns carried out by multinationals around the world?
Skincare products: good or bad?
A lot of beauty professionals I´ve met, have told me one thing – it is not good to mess up with your skin. The basics (e.g. sun-care, day cream, once-twice a week peeling) – is all you need and we all shouldn’t use too many skin treatments and masks on a daily basis. And I should give them a credit – our grandmothers didn´t use anything and their skin looked gorgeous. I still know some girls with great skin glow not using any skincare stuff. Though my question is, how will they look in 40 years? Will their skin glow more than mine? – The truth is, no one knows.
I believe the main reason here is the fact that our climate is changing… with all the processes going on, like global warming and pollution, there is no guarantee doing same things our ancestors did would give us same results. In particularly, I know facial sun-care is a must for my skin, otherwise I get pigmentation. I also have eventual acne breakouts and a good cleaner /peeling is something I can´t live without. So my conclusion is that the truth lies somewhere in between: too many products is bad, while not using anything could also do harm.
However, the reason some of us have a better skin than others often goes beyond our beauty routine. While genetics often defines our skin type, healthy lifestyle is still a key to all the positive changes. Beauty blossoms from the inside: good skin does not require a miracle, it requires a commitment. No beauty product would save you if all you eat is a junk food. And maybe you won´t notice the effect in your 20s, but sooner or later you will. Start thinking about it now! I love the approach of Chinese medicine to this issue.
While I was living in Hong Kong, I´ve discovered some of the traditional Chinese medical treatments. And the biggest difference with our european/american approach is: they see a body as a mechanism: if one part doesn´t work well – the whole result is different. Therefore, the problem is never local. We cure only what hurts or bothers, they seek to prevent it, improve the immune system and restore the whole body to balance.
Believe it or not, I got sick in Hong Kong ( virus, feather, sore throat … the whole package) and what helped me to get through it all were some traditional (plant based) Chinese recipes. At the same time I went to see a doctor in a British/European clinic and the prescriptions were far less effective. The moral of the story: if you´re healthy from the inside you will also look great. And your skin is not an exception, it is a highlight. Work on improving your lifestyle and preventing the potential problems, rather than dealing with them locally. Great skin is a commitment. My conclusion: healthy lifestyle + good quality skin care basics = perfect skin.
I don´t have beauty bloggers I trust. Everyone knows it´s a business. I´ve checked out a lot of them with a hope to find something useful. I´ve already given up on this idea. And this is the reason why I´ve decided to share with you my beauty “must have” products – this business lacks true reviews, we all could benefit from. And by the way, if you know more cool products, I´d be glad to hear your suggestions. This industry evolves and changes so fast: I´m in a constant search of good quality skincare products to diversify my beauty routine.
Old vs. New
I can´t even count how many beauty novelties I´ve already tried and tested. And again, I´ve already mentioned it while talking about my Beauty Travel Must Haves : I believe it is good to change your beauty products every once in a while, so that your skin would´t get used to them. Nevertheless, there are several products I keep going back to.
